A road is a static thing. Without major construction, it stays the same size. However, the number of cars and trucks that travel on any given road in Texas changes all the time. While the highways in and around Grapevine are often under construction, we have to wonder if road expansions can keep up with the increase in truck travel. At some point, roads have nowhere to widen, nowhere to go. Then what?

More 18 Wheelers, More Grapevine Trucking Accidents?

Increasing the number of trucks on any given roadway is sure to have an impact on that road. When traffic increases, so do crash rates. While this is no surprise, it should be considered seriously; collisions with an 18 wheeler or other commercial truck are far more dangerous than the average car crash.

What Can Be Done?

Aside from sticking to city streets, there is not much we can do to avoid sharing the road with a semi-truck; however, there are ways to help prevent trucking crashes. Defensive driving is often the key to preventing a collision. Be sure that you are acutely aware of each truck you pass. Before passing, watch the truck for signs of distracted or drowsy driving such as swerving, frequent changes in speed, or erratic driving patterns. If the truck driver is driving in such a way that you cannot pass safely, don't pass. Staying out of the truck's way and reporting the driver to police may save you and help prevent a serious crash.
