The latest in a long line of recent semi truck safety regulations concerns oversize and overweight loads in Texas. The Texas Department of Transportation has implemented a new GIS-based mapping system that allows truck drivers to apply for oversized loads and for the driver to receive accurate driving directions. According to TxDOT, the new TxPROS system will help drivers:
  • Increase route safety

  • Get permits faster

  • Receive turn-by-turn directions

Just One of Many Texas 18-Wheeler Safety Initiatives

The new Texas oversized load system is not the only safety rule or initiative trying to reduce the number of crashes involving large trucks. Other proposed or passed laws and initiatives that affect trucks include: adding newer, stronger rear impact guards, better drug testing enforcement, and driver fitness requirements.

While many new national regulations may not be passed this year, our attorneys hope that lawmakers do take action and pass laws that aim to reduce the number of serious large truck accidents in Texas. As Dallas 18-wheeler crash lawyers, we have seen the impact that semi truck crashes have. Motorists are too often seriously injured, even killed, in 18-wheeler crashes.
