Cornelius Towns, a senior at Cedar Hill high school, was killed early Saturday morning in Grand Prairie when the car he was riding in overturned into Fish Creek. Towns was in the back seat of a sedan driven by a friend when the car drifted onto the shoulder, then went down an embankment and after becoming airborne, flipped into the creek. According to the police, Towns was ejected from the vehicle when the car flipped over.
The front right passenger, Darkori Murphyan, 18-year-old Grand Prairie resident, was also injured in the wreck and is in critical condition at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. The driver of the vehicle, Evan Williams, a 19-year-old from Cedar Hill, pulled the passenger from the overturned vehicle and flagged down a passing motorist on Carrier Parkway for help.
While the driver was also taken to the hospital, his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. Police believe that alcohol is a factor in the crash but will review toxicology reports before determining if charges will be filed.
