A serious accident on the Westlake/Keller border injured a police officer and his prisoner. The Northlake, TX police officer was traveling east on Highway 170 when he stopped at a red light at the intersection with Highway 377.

As the police officer waited for the light to change a white truck sped toward the officer and rear ended the police SUV.  The force of the collision pushed the police vehicle into the intersection where a semi-truck was headed northbound on Highway 377.  The SUV was hit by the 18-wheeler, causing further damage and injuries. Drunk driving is suspected as a factor in the serious crash.

Both the officer and the suspect were taken by helicopter to Harris Methodist hospital.  Their injuries were said to be non-life-threatening. The semi-truck driver was not injured in the crash and the driver of the pickup truck sustained only minor injuries. Police investigating the accident reportedly found alcohol containers in the pickup truck.
