Wanda Lindsey still struggles with the loss of her husband.

"It's like having half of your heart ripped out of your body," said Lindsay. "I can't even put it into words. It's just the most devastating loss, a hollow pain that just beats you down."

As we reported earlier, Wanda lost her husband John when a semi-truck slammed into the back of their car in a Texas construction zone. After the accident, Wanda found out that the truck driver suffered from obstructive sleep apnea, a disorder that can cause excessive daytime drowsiness. After recovering from her injuries, Mrs. Lindsay started the John Lindsay Foundation, a non-profit that works to spread sleep apnea awareness.

Good News for the Foundation and Mrs. Lindsay

In response to Wanda's hard work, at least one trucking company started mandatory sleep apnea screenings. Since beginning the screenings, the Schneider Trucking Company has seen both their medical costs and accident rate drop dramatically.

In addition, a recent lawsuit filed on behalf of Mrs. Lindsay against Celadon Trucking, the company that employed the driver who hit the Lindsay's, was settled out of court. The company admitted that sleep apnea did in fact affect its driver's ability to properly perform his duties and operate a truck safely.

The staff and attorneys at the Hart Law Firm would like to thank Mrs. Lindsay for her work toward ending sleep apnea in truck drivers. Thanks to her efforts, the roads of Texas are safer than ever. We are sorry for your loss and hope that with time, you find some measure of peace.
