Sliding under the back of a semi truck looks pretty cool in the movies. However, in real life, these large truck accidents are some of the most deadly in Texas. While safety devices installed on the backs of large trucks should stop cars from sliding under the truck during a collision, too many of them fail.

When Rear Impact Guards Fail A failure of the rear impact guard is not just dangerous, it's deadly. Over 350 people are killed each year when a car hits the back of a big rig, sliding underneath the truck. Rear impact guards are supposed to prevent these deaths, yet a study done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety showed that at even at moderate speeds, 35 MPH, many of the guards failed. Our northern neighbors in Canada require a guard that is 75 percent stronger than those required in the U.S. During the crash tests the Canadian guards consistently held up during the same simulated crashes. When Cars Slide Under Texas Trucks When the rear impact guards fails, the consequences are often dire. Though the trucker might walk away without injury, those in the car are almost never as lucky. Though nearly any crash with a big rig is dangerous, this type of car/semi crash nearly always causes severe injuries, even loss of life. If you have been involved in this type of crash, or a loved one has been injured or killed, please accept our condolences. We know that the road to recovery, both emotionally and physically is long.
