Is Your Teen Risking a Crash on I-35 or I-635 in Dallas?

Posted on May 31, 2011

A recent report, published by Allstate Insurance and released to the Texas Department of Transportation, shows that I-35 and 639 are the most dangerous Dallas roads for teen drivers.  Statewide, the following roadways, in the following counties, account for the most teen crashes in Texas:

  • 1. I-45 in Harris County
  • 2. I-10 in Harris County
  • 3. I-10 in Bexar County
  • 4. I-35 in Bexar County
  • 5. SL 1604 in Bexar County
  • 6. I-410 in Bexar County
  • 7. I-35 in Travis County

•8.     I-635 in Dallas County

  • 9. US 59 in Harris County
  • 10. FM 1960 in Harris County

Using statewide crash data, the insurance company has come out with a list of the most dangerous roads for teen drivers.  Teenaged drivers are of particular concern as crash rates for their age group are disproportionately high.  Though strict novice driving laws apply, too many teens simply don't have the experience to avoid crashes.  In addition, the popularity and wide use of cell phones has increased the chance for driving distraction.

As we enter June, we also enter the most dangerous time of the year for teen drivers.  More teens lose their lives in car crashes between Memorial Day and Labor Day than any other time of the year.

As Dallas personal injury attorneys we ask that you speak with your teen driver.  Ensure that they understand the importance of keeping their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.  No texting, no talking, no changing the radio station.  Though these rules may seem strict, it only takes a moment for a driver to take his eyes off the road and cause a serious collision.  Protect your teen.  Talk to them today.
